I’m sorry if the title is confusing, but the art is based on Joss Whedon’s body of work not art by Joss Whedon himself. Gallery 1988 (West) currently has an art show of some fantastic art inspired by Joss Whedon’s TV shows and films, with most of the focus on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly/Serenity.
Opening night was this past Friday from 7-10pm, and I went to see the art. I arrived much later than I had intended at about 7:30pm. The line extended around the corner as the gallery is very, very tiny so they can only let a few people in at a time. While waiting in line, a friend had posted on Facebook Joss had visited on opening night, but left before the public was let in. I managed to gain entry into the gallery at about 8:40pm. Since I didn’t have money to spend, I avoided the cramped area at the back of the gallery where people were placing their orders for various pieces. The pieces became available online on Saturday, and as of this morning, many of the pieces are sold out.
Here are a few of my favorite pieces.
