Super Cousins Panel – Stephen and Robbie Amell
Heroes and Villains Fan Fest – San Jose
November 22, 2015
I love seeing Stephen and Robbie Amell together, and this was a great panel to see at Heroes and Villains Fan Fest in San Jose.  I really hope they do it again at the next two Heroes and Villains Fan Fests currently scheduled for New York/New Jersey and Chicago.  When Stephen comes out and calls Robbie his younger cousin, you know it’s going to be a great time learning more about their personal relationship.

Some of the stories we heard:
Stephen moved to Los Angeles several years after Robbie did (both to become actors).

Robbie gave Stephen a hard time about his car when he first came to LA (they called it a Smart Car, but I think that was a reference to the size rather than the make and model of the car).  I had already learned about Robbie being a car guy and Stephen’s lack of interest in cars.

Robbie is, apparently, a little bit of a neat freak and doesn’t like a lot of pillows everywhere.  The story is that Italia, Robbie’s fiancée, has a lot of decorative pillows on the bed and sofa.  The pillows from the sofa would always be thrown on the floor, and Italia thought it was Robbie doing it until they caught the dog pushing the pillows off the sofa.  Stephen interrupts the story with a jab at Robbie.  Stephen points out that Robbie gave him crap about his little car, but Robbie owns a 7 pound dog to which Robbie kind of chuckled and nodded.

Stephen tells the story about growing up with Robbie.  Stephen is 7 years older than Robbie, and when they were younger, they would be close: playing, hanging out, etc., but once Stephen became a teenager he didn’t want to play with Robbie so they didn’t have much contact.  Stephen said when he was about 22-23 years old, he gets a call from Robbie asking if he (Robbie) could use Stephen’s ID to get into clubs and bars.  Stephen gave it to him!  Robbie adds to the story that he would go to bars and the bouncers/doormen would look at the ID then look at his 15 year old self, repeatedly, as if thinking, “He doesn’t look 23, but this really looks like him.”  Stephen adds that Robbie had memorized Stephen’s Toronto address (which was on the ID) in case he was asked.  Stephen then goes on to say a few years later Robbie calls him to say that he lost the ID and could he get another one.  Apparently, Stephen paid to get a replacement ID for Robbie to use!

During the panel, Stephen asked if anyone was wearing any San Jose Sharks paraphernalia.  He picked two people who were and invited them up on stage.  Then Robbie and Stephen each had a Sharks wearing audience member on their team to play a game of Corn Hole.  They also took audience questions during the game, and Robbie went live on Facebook during the game.  Robbie continued to respond to questions about Firestorm’s future with “I’m dead!” which never stopped being funny.

It’s interesting because I often see comments on various social media posts referring to Stephen and Robbie as brothers, and someone actually referred to Stephen as Robbie’s brother in a question to Robbie at the Fire and Ice Panel the previous day.  I know they’re cousins, but seeing them together laughing and joking around (not to mention how much they look alike), it’s really quite easy to think of them as brothers.

At the end of the Super Cousins panel, we rushed out to get in line for David Ramsey’s panel which I’ll recap in my next post.
