August 2021

We came to San Jose, California to attend our first convention in over a year. I do love attending conventions at the San Jose Convention Center as it’s so close to some great restaurants, hotels, and entertainment venues. I hope to have time someday to visit the museums in the area, too. It was an extraordinarily hot weekend while we were there with temperatures in the mid-90s (Farenheit). It was also a bit smoky from the forest fires near the Redwoods, but wearing masks for COVID-19 also helped with the smoky air.
We did notice a few restaurants had permanently closed since our last visit in 2019. Thankfully, My Milkshake was still up and running, and we headed there soon after checking into our hotel. I wanted a nice cold and sweet treat due to the heat. At My Milkshake we also got some garlic tots to snack on, and they were so freaking good I look forward to getting those again. We ate breakfast at one of my favorite restaurants, Whispers Café and Creperie, on Saturday morning and Saturday night we ate burritos from another of my favorites, La Victoria Taqueria for dinner on Friday night.
We stayed at the Convention Center Inn & Suites this visit, and we really enjoyed it. There was some refurbishment work being done on the exterior, but that did not interfere with our stay at all. The rooms appear to have been recently remodeled, and they are quite lovely and comfortable. All of the rooms come with a refrigerator and microwave and a small sitting room area with its own television. The staff was friendly and helpful, and we really enjoyed our stay. We will definitely stay at the Convention Center Inn & Suites again.
